WHAT IS OMEGA 3?

Omega 3 is one of the most important unsaturated fatty acids that cannot be produced by the body but must be taken from foods or supplements. It is divided into two as EPA and DHA, these oils are polyunsaturated fatty acids with a different structure.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO USE DURING PREGNANCY?

The unborn baby; supports the development of the eye, brain, and nervous system. Omega 3 supplements taken during my pregnancy protect the baby against non-communicable diseases (Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases, Cholesterol) in later life. It plays an active role in the transmission between nerve cells. Also, it should be used for the expectant mother to prevent postpartum depression, pregnancy poisoning (preeclampsia), and premature birth. In scientific studies; It has been observed and power that the use of Omega 3 during pregnancy has a positive effect on decreasing the risk of premature birth and increasing the birth weight of the baby.

WHICH FOOD TO BUY OMEGA 3?

The best source of omega 3 is fish. This; followed by walnuts, flax seeds, and purslane. However, Omega 3 obtained from herbal sources suffers some loss after being taken into the body. Therefore; 200-300 grams of fish should be consumed 3 days a week, provided that it is a seasonal and reliable fish. At this point, the variety of fish is important. Since deep water fish contain heavy metals, small fish should be preferred during pregnancy; anchovy, horse mackerel, sea bream, sea bass, salmon. But what if we are out of season or feel unreliable? Therefore, fish oil supplementation is the most reliable and correct method.

HOW TO CHOOSE FISH OIL (OMEGA 3) SUPPLEMENT AND HOW TO USE IT?

While preparing fish oil supplements; It is derived from the fish body or fish liver. Since the storage organ of vitamin A in the liver, there is a high amount of vitamin A in the oil obtained from fish liver. Vitamin A taken with daily nutrition, together with vitamin A from fish oil, can have toxic effects on the body. For this reason, for safe use, you should take care that the fish oil is obtained from the body of the fish, not from the liver. Make sure that the fish oil you buy has an IFOS certificate stating that it does not contain heavy metals!
