My Skin Has Bruising; Is it important?

If the condition, which is referred to as “bruising” or “bruising” among the public, occurs without hitting anywhere or with little trauma, it may be a harbinger of some important diseases. In this article, we will try to explain these reasons briefly.

Subcutaneous bleeding larger than 1 cm in the skin is called “ecchymosis”. This condition, which is referred to as “bruising” or “bruising” among the public, can be a harbinger of some important diseases if it occurs without hitting anywhere or with very little trauma. In this article, we will try to explain these reasons briefly.

CAUSES OF POURING ON THE SKIN

Bruising caused by trauma such as bumping or hitting Is it important?

The person who sees bruising on their skin must first understand whether it is a bump or spontaneous. The bruises that occur after a certain period of time turn into yellow-green and then a black color and disappear. Try to remember if you have had any trauma that could cause this bruising. If it is due to trauma, be careful if there is a mismatch between the degree of the trauma and the size of the bruising. If it occurs without any bumps or trauma, or if you have large bruises even in minor bumps, you may need to be examined for some diseases.

Bruising in the Elderly

As you age, you may notice bruises that are not visible at a young age. As you age, your skin becomes thinner and when you hit something you lose the protective layer that acts as a pillow. Also, your blood vessels become more fragile. Both of these cause easier bruising.

Some Medicines and Food Supplements

If you are using aspirin or any blood thinner, do not be surprised at the bruising that occurs on your body. Some food supplements, such as fish oil and Ginko, can cause bruising by lowering or impairing the function of clotting cells called platelets.

Most of the medications you use (primarily blood thinners) can cause easy bruising. Particularly, steroids called cortisone among people, antidepressant drugs used in the treatment of depression are the most well-known. If this happens, do not stop your medication immediately and talk to your doctor first.

Low Vitamin C

Low levels of vitamin C are generally not seen in a person who eats a balanced diet. Its level can be found to be low in the elderly and people who smoke excessively. Vitamin C is responsible for maintaining the level of a protein in the body, which is necessary for the production of skin, ligaments, and bones called “collagen”. When it is low, easy bruising and bleeding gums can be seen.

Simple Purpura

The term “purpura” is the main name for subcutaneous hemorrhages such as ecchymosis in medicine. While bleeding smaller than 2 mm is called petechiae, bleeding larger than 1 cm is called ecchymosis, as we mentioned before. “Simple purpura”, which we call “purpura simplex” in medical language, is very common. Its cause and mechanism of occurrence are not clear. It is generally seen in women. Bruises usually occur in the hip and thigh area. There is no other history of excessive bleeding on retrospective examination. Serious bleeding does not occur. Coagulation tests and coagulation cell count and function are usually normal.

Excessive Sun Exposure

If you are a person who likes the sun and sunbathing and if you exaggerate this a little, bruises may occur on your skin. This is because over time the sun weakens your skin and the small veins beneath it. These bruises are a little different. They do not occur as a result of hitting or hitting. You may feel tenderness and pain when touching it. It may also take a long time for them to heal. It is generally seen on the back of the hands and arms.

Blood Diseases

They are the most important causes of bruising on the skin. It may occur due to coagulation disorder in the blood. This coagulation disorder may be due to the decrease or impairment of the coagulation cells, which we call platelets, or to the deficiency of some proteins that enable coagulation in the body. Some tests may be required to detect this.

Apart from this, some leukemias, lymph node tumors, or bone marrow cancers can also cause this situation. In these diseases, in addition to easy bruising on the skin, gingival bleeding, nosebleeds, or bleeding from any other place may occur. If you have nosebleeds for no reason if you experience a large amount of bleeding after brushing your gums or using dental floss if small cuts or scrapes cause heavy and prolonged bleeding, be sure to consult your doctor.

Extreme exercise

Exercising more than normal can sometimes cause bruising on the skin. During exercise, the excessive strain of the muscles may cause leakage from blood vessels and subcutaneous bleeding. While this is not observed in light exercises or walking for 30 minutes, it can occur in people who exercise by lifting heavy loads or run a marathon. In these cases, resting, applying ice and/or compression to the bruising area, and keeping the bruised arm and leg lying or sitting up may be the solution.

Drinking excessive alcohol

Alcohol is toxic to the bone marrow. It can disrupt buttonhole making. It can cause bruising by disrupting the production of coagulation cells called thrombocytes in the marrow or by disrupting their function after they are produced and passed into the blood. Again, taking excessive alcohol can damage the liver. The liver is the place where proteins that enable coagulation are made. In severe liver damage (such as cirrhosis), the production of these coagulation proteins is impaired. Due to this, bruising and bleeding can be seen. This situation is serious and you should talk to your doctor.

As a result, there are many mild and serious causes of bruising on the skin. Therefore, people with bruising on the skin should be evaluated in detail in terms of these reasons.
